Joan became a founder member of Textilia III after completion of City & Guilds Part 2 in 1995. She has since gained a 1st Class honours degree in Textiles and Printmaking from Bradford College. She now teaches textiles and runs workshops in schools and colleges  She has worked on a year's placement with Chrysalis Arts where she was involved with Public and Regeneration Artwork, giving her the opportunity to continue to explore her interest in site specific installations. Her own work over the past three years has focused on the presence of breast cancer in our culture and the way that we perceive it.

 

She specialises in working with paper and wax incorporating hand and machine stitch.

 

She offers workshops, both in schools and colleges and for private groups. Commissions are also undertaken.

This new piece of work consists of 9 hand made envelopes attached to a calico backing. They are a representation of the 1 in 9 women who will get breast cancer. Text is included in the piece.
